Nathan Peterson, DC
About

About Nathan Peterson

Dr. Nathan Peterson was born and raised in Lakeville, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota with a concentration in biological sciences and Italian. After finishing his bachelor’s degree in human biology at Northwestern Health Science University, he transitioned into the Chiropractic program. Upon graduating in 2012 and earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, he began to practice in downtown Minneapolis up to 2015. That is when his husband convinced him to move to Colorado. Dr. Nathan specializes in all types of Chiropractic adjustments including Manual, Drop Piece work and Activator. He is also certified in Chiropractic Acupuncture and loves introducing patients to Chinese medicine. In addition, he is trained in the Graston technique, Kinesio taping and Active Release Technique (or ART). Dr. Nathan is passionate about his work with pregnant patients, newborns, and young children. Of course, he is happy to adjust patients of all ages! All his clinical rotations were spent with a pediatric chiropractor and he learned very specialized and gentle adjusting techniques. Outside of work, you will find Dr. Nathan hiking, road tripping, spelunking (caving) and camping with his husband, Adam. When not exploring the great outdoors, Dr. Nathan loves playing Dungeons and Dragons and will happily talk your ear off about it.

Clinical focus

For the patient who does not want to be cracked

A fair number of people who would benefit from chiropractic never book, because the picture in their head is a forceful twist of the neck. Dr. Peterson is a reasonable person to see if that is you. He works across the full range of adjusting, from manual work to drop-table and Activator, and the low-force end of that range is not a consolation prize. It is often the right choice, particularly early after an injury, in an irritable joint, or when a patient is tense enough that force would simply be met with guarding.

His clinical rotations were all spent with a chiropractor whose practice was built on gentle, precise adjusting, and that shows up in how a first visit with him goes: more examining, more explaining what is about to happen, and a technique chosen to fit the person on the table rather than the other way around.

The problems he sees most are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, headaches and migraines and injuries after a car accident.

In the room

What an adjustment actually involves

Three techniques are used here, and which one you get depends on you rather than on habit. Diversified is the hands-on adjustment most people picture, with the audible release. Drop-table, also called Thompson, uses a table section that drops a short distance so the force needed is much lower. Activator is a small spring-loaded instrument that delivers a single controlled impulse and no twisting at all — which is what makes it the usual choice for someone nervous, someone older, or a joint too irritable to handle more.

Two other things are available alongside: spinal decompression, a motorised traction table used for disc-related leg or arm symptoms, and dry needling for the muscular component that survives the adjustment.

The part that matters most is what happens when Chiropractic is not the answer. Physical Therapy, Pain Management and Acupuncture are in the same building and on the same chart, so a change of direction is a conversation rather than a new referral and another wait.

Insurance and referrals

Seeing Dr. Peterson

No referral is needed for Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Pain Management or Acupuncture, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

Mountain View Pain Center is contracted with Medicare and with most major commercial plans, and we also work with personal-injury liens and workers’ compensation. Medicare covers spinal manipulation only — not the examination, the modalities or the therapies around it, which are billed separately. Our team can verify your benefits before your first visit.

Before you come in

Nathan Peterson — FAQs

Is Dr. Peterson accepting new patients?

Availability changes from week to week, so the honest answer is to ask. Request an appointment online and say you would like to see Dr. Peterson, or call and our team will tell you what is open at Downtown Denver. No referral is needed, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

I am nervous about being adjusted. What are my options?

Say so at the first visit. Drop-table and Activator adjustments are low-force and do not involve the twisting motion most people are picturing, and Dr. Peterson uses both regularly. Nothing is done to you that has not been explained first.

Where does Dr. Peterson see patients?

At our Downtown Denver clinic. Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Pain Management are all Mountain View Pain Center service lines, so if your care needs to move between them it moves on one chart.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor here?

No. Chiropractic at Mountain View Pain Center does not require a referral, and neither do Physical Therapy, Pain Management or Acupuncture. If your own plan requires one, our team will tell you when they verify your benefits.

Does Medicare cover chiropractic care?

Medicare covers spinal manipulation only. The examination, imaging and any therapies performed alongside the adjustment are not covered under Medicare for chiropractic, so our team goes through what is covered and what is not before your first visit rather than after it.

Request an appointment online any time.
