Your first visit

Your first appointment is an examination, not just a treatment. You leave with a diagnosis and a plan rather than being sent away to come back for one.

  1. The examination

We take a history, test how you move, review any imaging you already have, and order more only when the exam calls for it.

  2. The plan

You leave knowing what is causing the pain, what we would do about it, and what it is likely to cost.

  3. The care

Injections, adjustment, rehabilitation and Acupuncture all happen in the same clinic, from providers reading the same chart.

Once you have scheduled your initial appointment, you may download and print the new patient forms, fill them out, and bring them to your first visit. Completing the forms beforehand will speed up registration. If you would rather not, arrive about fifteen minutes early and we will do them with you at the desk.

Come in even if you are not sure it is bad enough

The examination is free of any commitment to treatment. If what you have does not need us, we will tell you that, and point you at what does.

Handy to have, not required

  • Any imaging or records from another provider

What You Will Be Asked, and Why

Most of a first appointment is history-taking, and it is more detailed than people expect. Each question is narrowing down where the pain is coming from.

  • Where the pain is, precisely, and whether it travels. Pain that radiates into a leg or an arm points somewhere very different from pain that stays put.
  • What it feels like. Aching, burning, stabbing, electric, dull, tight. These words are diagnostic rather than descriptive: burning and electrical pain suggests a nerve is involved, while deep aching more often points to a joint or muscle.
  • When it started, and whether anything happened at the time. A specific incident, a gradual onset, and waking up with it one day are three different stories.
  • What makes it better and worse. Sitting, standing, bending forward or back, walking, lying down, first thing in the morning, end of the day.
  • What it stops you doing. This is the part people undersell, and it is worth saying plainly. Function is what the plan is aimed at, so it needs to be on the record.

What will not happen at the first visit

You will not be given an injection that day. Interventional procedures are planned, consented and scheduled separately, and most need prior authorization from your insurance first. A plan is a proposal, not a commitment, and you can take it away and think about it.

Allow about an hour. The appointment itself is usually shorter, but finishing paperwork beforehand and discussing the plan afterwards both take time, and being rushed at either end is no use to you.

What you can be seen for

All of it under one roof

You do not have to know which one you need. The examination decides that, and the providers work from the same chart in the same building.

Spanish-language communication is available at every clinic through real-time translation.

We also accept Colorado Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare and workers compensation. If you were hurt in a car accident, care is usually billed to auto insurance or med-pay. Our front desk verifies your benefits before the first visit, so call (720) 749-5599 in Colorado or (602) 325-2024 in Arizona with any question about coverage.

Before you send it

Questions we get asked

Do I need a referral?

Not for most plans, and not to be seen. A few insurance plans have their own referral rules, which we check when we verify your benefits. How to tell whether your plan needs one.

How soon will I be seen?

Our goal is the same week or sooner. Tell us on the form how soon you need to be in.

What will it cost me?

We verify your benefits before your first visit and tell you what to expect, so nothing on the bill is a surprise.

What if I was in a car accident?

Say so on the form. That care is usually billed to auto medical payments coverage rather than your health plan, and we handle the documentation. See car accident injury treatment.

Who will I see?

That depends on what is wrong. Your first visit is an examination, and the plan that comes out of it may involve a physician, a physical therapist, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, or several of them working from one chart.
