What a Colorado Pain Specialist Actually Does

The distinction that matters is diagnosis before treatment. A pain specialist is not a prescriber of last resort — the job is to identify which structure is generating your pain, then treat that structure. Low back pain coming from a facet joint is not treated the same way as low back pain coming from a disc, and the examination is what separates them.

From there care runs from conservative through interventional as the findings warrant: physical therapy and chiropractic first for most people, then image-guided epidural, facet, medial branch, sacroiliac and joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and nerve blocks where they are indicated. The approach is opioid-sparing by design.
