The job is diagnosis before treatment. A pain specialist is not a prescriber of last resort — the work is identifying which structure is generating your pain, then treating that structure directly. Low back pain coming from a facet joint is not treated the same way as low back pain coming from a disc or from the sacroiliac joint, and the examination is what separates them. Treating all three the same way is the single most common reason pain fails to resolve.

Care runs from conservative through interventional as the findings warrant, and it is opioid-sparing by design. Physical Therapy and Chiropractic come first for most people. When imaging and examination point to a specific pain generator, options include epidural steroid injection, facet and medial branch blocks, nerve blocks, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, trigger point injections and spinal cord stimulation for refractory cases.

You will spend most of the first visit being examined rather than being treated. We take a history, test movement and neurological function, review any imaging you already have, and order more only when the exam calls for it. You leave with a diagnosis and a plan, not a prescription and a follow-up. If the right next step is therapy or an adjustment rather than an injection, that is what we will say — and it happens in the same building, usually the same week.
