About

About Kevin Ryan

Dr. Kevin Ryan is a Colorado native and a DU alum. His journey toward becoming an alternative practitioner began after a disc injury while weight training. His positive experience with both Chiropractic care and Physical Therapy aligned with his holistic approach to healthcare. In his 25 plus years as a chiropractor, he has filled his ‘tool bag’ with a wide range of techniques which enable him to personalize his treatment plans in accordance with the patient’s comfort level and physical limitations. Some of his go-to techniques include Diversified, Thompson, Activator and A.K. Dr. Ryan earned his doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA in 1997. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending live music events, and exploring the beautiful Colorado mountains.

Clinical focus

He came to this as a patient with a disc injury

Dr. Ryan was weight training when he injured a disc, and the care that got him back was a combination of chiropractic and physical therapy rather than either one alone. He went to Palmer College of Chiropractic afterwards, and the experience is still visible in how he practices: he is unusually specific with patients about what an irritated disc will and will not tolerate, because he has had one.

Twenty-five years of practice since then have gone into what he calls his tool bag. Diversified, drop-table and Activator are the techniques he reaches for most, and which one you get depends on what your body will accept rather than on what he prefers. A patient in an acute episode, an older patient with osteoporosis and a thirty-year-old with a stiff mid-back are three different problems, and matching the technique to the person is most of the skill.

The problems he sees most are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, headaches and migraines and injuries after a car accident.

In the room

What an adjustment actually involves

Three techniques are used here, and which one you get depends on you rather than on habit. Diversified is the hands-on adjustment most people picture, with the audible release. Drop-table, also called Thompson, uses a table section that drops a short distance so the force needed is much lower. Activator is a small spring-loaded instrument that delivers a single controlled impulse and no twisting at all — which is what makes it the usual choice for someone nervous, someone older, or a joint too irritable to handle more.

Two other things are available alongside: spinal decompression, a motorised traction table used for disc-related leg or arm symptoms, and dry needling for the muscular component that survives the adjustment.

The part that matters most is what happens when Chiropractic is not the answer. Physical Therapy, Pain Management and Acupuncture are in the same building and on the same chart, so a change of direction is a conversation rather than a new referral and another wait.

Insurance and referrals

Seeing Dr. Ryan

No referral is needed for Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Pain Management or Acupuncture, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

Mountain View Pain Center is contracted with Medicare and with most major commercial plans, and we also work with personal-injury liens and workers’ compensation. Medicare covers spinal manipulation only — not the examination, the modalities or the therapies around it, which are billed separately. Our team can verify your benefits before your first visit.

Before you come in

Kevin Ryan — FAQs

Is Dr. Ryan accepting new patients?

Availability changes from week to week, so the honest answer is to ask. Request an appointment online and say you would like to see Dr. Ryan, or call and our team will tell you what is open at Arapahoe. No referral is needed, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

Can a chiropractor help with a herniated disc?

Often, yes, and Dr. Ryan has managed his own. Manual care, spinal decompression and a graded return to loading all have a place. What matters is examining first, because a disc with progressive neurological signs is a different problem and belongs with Pain Management rather than on an adjusting table.

I hurt my back lifting. What should I do first?

Get examined rather than guessing. Most lifting injuries settle with the right care and a short adjustment to how you load, but the pattern in the first two weeks tells you which category you are in, and that is worth knowing early rather than late.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor here?

No. Chiropractic at Mountain View Pain Center does not require a referral, and neither do Physical Therapy, Pain Management or Acupuncture. If your own plan requires one, our team will tell you when they verify your benefits.

Does Medicare cover chiropractic care?

Medicare covers spinal manipulation only. The examination, imaging and any therapies performed alongside the adjustment are not covered under Medicare for chiropractic, so our team goes through what is covered and what is not before your first visit rather than after it.

Request an appointment online any time.
