Drake University – Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. Des Moines University – Master of Physician Assistant Studies. Kelsey Pogatetz is a physician assistant who grew up in Chicago, IL and received her education in Des Moines, IA. During her time as a student, she worked at a neurorehabilitation facility, assisting patients regain and maintain function from various disabilities. Her favorite part about working in Pain Management is the ability to positively impact patients and help them regain control over their lives. She believes in practicing evidence-based medicine as a team with the patient to help them achieve their Pain Management goals. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her golden retriever puppy, reading a good book, and being outdoors.
Kelsey worked at a neurorehabilitation facility while training, helping people regain and hold onto function after serious disability. That setting teaches a particular discipline: you measure what someone can actually do, you expect the gains to be incremental, and you do not mistake a bad week for a failed plan.
Applied to pain, that means the questions are about function. How far can you walk, how long can you sit, what have you stopped doing that you would like back. Those move before pain scores do, and unlike a score out of ten they do not depend on remembering how last month felt.
Her stated approach is evidence-based medicine practiced as a team with the patient, which in practice means you should expect to be told what the evidence does and does not support for your particular problem, and to have a say in which option is tried first.
The conditions she sees are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica and nerve pain, herniated discs, arthritis and joint pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, peripheral neuropathy and headaches and migraines.
Kelsey’s visits start with an examination and a diagnosis. Her first job is working out which structure is generating the pain, because that is what decides the plan — and imaging you bring is read alongside the examination rather than in place of it.
Visits cover evaluation, medication management and ongoing pain care. Where an image-guided procedure — epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, trigger point injections and radiofrequency ablation — is the right next step, it is scheduled at Northglenn or Interquest in north Colorado Springs, which are the Colorado clinics where those are performed in office.
Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture are in the same building, so where the answer is rehabilitation rather than a needle it is a handover rather than another referral and another wait.
Kelsey sees patients at Central Park. That page lists the address, the hours and what a first visit involves.

At our Central Park clinic. Central Park is not one of the four clinics where image-guided procedures are performed, so if one turns out to be the right next step it is scheduled at Northglenn or Interquest.

By what you can do, tracked visit to visit — walking distance, sitting tolerance, the specific activity you came in wanting back. A pain score on its own is a poor guide because it depends on recall and on the day you happen to be asked. If the functional measures are not moving after a fair trial, that is information too, and it changes the plan rather than extending it.
