This is an unusual place for a chiropractor to practise, and the difference is mostly about what happens when manual care is not the answer.

A standalone practice that finds something outside its scope has to refer you out and hope you follow through. Here, imaging is close, the pain management team is in the same clinic, and the wider campus covers what neither of us does. The examination can therefore be genuinely open-ended — the question is what is wrong with you, not what can be treated with an adjustment.

Examined, Then Treated

Range of motion, orthopaedic testing, neurological screening of the arm or leg where symptoms travel.

The examination is separating a joint restriction that will respond to manual work from a disc under load, a nerve root with genuine neurological findings, or something that should not be adjusted at all. If imaging should come first, we will say so and order it rather than adjust and hope for the best.

Techniques

Diversified manual adjustment; instrument-assisted adjustment for patients who prefer no manual thrust; drop-table technique; flexion-distraction for disc-related low back pain; soft-tissue and myofascial work; and home exercise, which is usually what makes the difference between relief and resolution.
