Car Accident Care: Med-Pay and Liens

Request an appointmentColorado (720) 749-5599Arizona (602) 325-2024

Care after a collision is usually billed to auto insurance or med-pay rather than to your health plan, and in Colorado we can hold the lien directly so treatment does not wait on a settlement. No referral is needed, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

Who pays, and in what order

After a crash the bill usually does not go where people expect. Medical payments coverage, normally called med-pay, is a part of an auto policy that pays for injury care regardless of who caused the collision, and it generally pays before your health plan does. It is the first thing our team looks for, because using it is what keeps a deductible and a copay out of the picture in the early weeks.

Where med-pay is exhausted or was never bought, care can be billed against the claim itself. In Colorado, Mountain View Pain Center can hold the lien directly, which means treatment proceeds now and the bill is settled out of the claim later rather than being paid out of pocket while everything is open.

Tell us a collision is involved when you call or when you request an appointment online. Bring your claim number and your adjuster’s name if you have them. If you do not have them yet, come anyway; our team has done this often enough to work it out with you.

What a crash claim asks for

Timing, documentation and the second week

Be examined early. A gap between the collision and the first examination is the single most common thing raised later, and it is avoidable. It also happens to be good clinical practice: symptoms that look minor on the day frequently declare themselves in the second or third week.

The documentation is part of the care. What hurt on the day, what appeared later, what you cannot do now and how it has changed week to week are clinical findings first and evidence second. They are far more accurate written down as they happen than reconstructed from memory months afterwards.

Med-pay has a limit, and it runs out quietly. Knowing the number in advance shapes how care is sequenced, so that what matters most is done while the coverage is there.

All four service lines are available. Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Pain Management are in the same practice and on one chart, which for a crash injury matters more than usual, because what a patient needs at week two is often not what they needed on day one.

Before you come in

What to bring, and how we check

Bring your insurance card and a photo ID, any imaging you already have with the report that goes with it, and a list of what you take. If a car accident is involved, bring your claim number and your adjuster’s name.

We verify your benefits before your first visit rather than after it. Call with your card in hand and our team will read your plan back to you: whether a referral is on file, what your deductible has left to run, what a visit is likely to cost and whether anything needs prior authorization. Request an appointment online at any hour and we will call you back to do the same.

Before you come in

Auto accident coverage — FAQs

Do you treat car accident injuries?

Yes, at every Mountain View Pain Center clinic in Colorado and Arizona, across Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Pain Management.

What is med-pay?

Medical payments coverage on an auto policy. It pays for injury care regardless of who was at fault, and it generally pays before your health plan does. It is the first thing our team looks for after a collision.

What if I do not have med-pay?

Care can be billed against the claim. In Colorado we can hold the lien directly, so treatment goes ahead now and is settled out of the claim later rather than paid out of pocket while it is open.

Will my health insurance be used?

Usually only after auto coverage. The order matters, because using the auto side first is what keeps a deductible and a copay out of the early weeks.

How soon should I be seen after a collision?

Soon, for two reasons. Symptoms that seem minor on the day often declare themselves in the second or third week, and a gap between the crash and the first examination is the thing most often raised later.

What do I bring?

Your claim number and your adjuster’s name if you have them, a photo ID, and any imaging already taken. If you do not have the claim details yet, come anyway and our team will work it out with you.

I feel fine but I was in a crash. Is it worth being checked?

It is worth being examined. The point of the visit is not to find something wrong, it is to establish what is normal for you now, which is what makes a change in week three meaningful rather than ambiguous.

Do I need a referral after a car accident?

No. None of our four service lines requires a referral. If your own plan requires one, our team will tell you when they verify your benefits.

Request an appointment online any time.

Day or night, seven days a week — and we’ll text you back to get you scheduled. No referral is needed, and our goal is to see you within the same week. Colorado scheduling runs through one number for every Colorado clinic: (720) 749-5599.
