The pelvic floor is a layer of muscle, and like any other muscle layer it can be too weak, too tight, or poorly coordinated with the muscles around it. Physical therapy for it works the same way physical therapy anywhere else does: an examination first, then a plan built around what the examination found.
It is treated here as part of the same chart as everything else. If low back pain, hip pain or a post-surgical recovery is part of the picture, the physical therapist treating the pelvic floor is in the same building as the chiropractors, the acupuncturist and the physician, and everyone is reading the same notes.
