Julianne is a Physician Assistant who grew up in San Jose, California. She attended San Diego State University for her undergraduate degree and went on to receive her master’s degree in physician assistant studies at California State University, Monterey Bay. Before coming to MVPC, Julianne was practicing at a Family Medicine clinic. As a provider in Pain Management, Julianne enjoys working in a multimodal fashion to get patients back to their everyday activities and improve their quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with her fiancé.
The default path through pain treatment is sequential: try one thing, wait, try the next. It is a reasonable instinct and it is usually the slow way round, because the things that work for a long-standing problem tend to work together — a procedure that reduces pain enough to make rehabilitation possible, rehabilitation that holds the gain, and medication management that keeps the window open while both happen.
Julianne works multimodally by preference, which is the main practical thing to know about being her patient: expect a plan with more than one element starting at roughly the same time, and expect to be told what each element is for.
She came from Family Medicine, so she is comfortable with the whole picture rather than the spine in isolation — sleep, other conditions, and what someone is already taking all shape what is sensible to add.
The conditions she sees are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica and nerve pain, herniated discs, arthritis and joint pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, peripheral neuropathy and headaches and migraines.
Julianne’s visits start with an examination and a diagnosis. Her first job is working out which structure is generating the pain, because that is what decides the plan — and imaging you bring is read alongside the examination rather than in place of it.

Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture are in the same building, so where the answer is rehabilitation rather than a needle it is a handover rather than another referral and another wait.

Usually two or three things running together rather than in sequence — for example an image-guided injection to bring the pain down far enough to work, Physical Therapy starting inside that window, and medication management holding the line while the strengthening takes effect. The point is that each element makes the others possible; run one at a time and the effect of the first has often worn off before the second begins.
