Dr. Gray is a double board-certified, fellowship trained interventional pain physician. He completed his BS in Bioengineering at The University of Toledo College of Engineering, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He attended medical school at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and was awarded Excellence in Rehabilitation Medicine by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). He completed his residency in PM&R at The Ohio State University Medical Center and went on to complete his fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine with the Department of Anesthesiology. As a physiatrist and interventional pain physician, Dr. Gray’s goal is to improve function and quality of life for his patients. He has years of experience in the diagnosis, management and treatment of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine disorders, as well as a wide array of musculoskeletal and neurological injuries. Dr. Gray has presented at national conferences and is published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Gray has broad clinical interests including spinal cord stimulation, neuromodulation for chronic pain of the spine and extremities, neuropathic pain, and regenerative medicine. In his free-time he enjoys spending time with his family, running, hiking, skiing, traveling, comedy and music.
Dr. Gray came to medicine from bioengineering — a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toledo College of Engineering, graduated Magna Cum Laude — and that is not a footnote. His stated clinical interests are spinal cord stimulation, neuromodulation for chronic pain of the spine and extremities, neuropathic pain and regenerative medicine, which is very close to a description of engineering applied to the nervous system.
Neuromodulation is the part of pain medicine where that training earns its keep. It treats pain by changing the signal rather than the tissue, and deciding whether someone is a candidate is a question of mechanism: what kind of pain this is, where it is generated, and whether the pathway can be interrupted usefully. That assessment is the work, and it is why the evaluation is longer than people expect.
Like Dr. Gabriel, he trained as a physiatrist before the pain fellowship, so the question in the room is what has changed about what you can do, not only where it hurts.
The conditions he sees are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica and nerve pain, herniated discs, arthritis and joint pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, peripheral neuropathy and headaches and migraines.
Dr. Gray’s visits start with an examination and a diagnosis. His first job is working out which structure is generating the pain, because that is what decides the plan — and imaging you bring is read alongside the examination rather than in place of it.
Northglenn is one of our four procedure clinics, so epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, trigger point injections and radiofrequency ablation are performed in office there.
Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture are in the same building, so where the answer is rehabilitation rather than a needle it is a handover rather than another referral and another wait.

Neuromodulation treats pain by changing the signal travelling along a nerve rather than by altering the tissue itself; spinal cord stimulation is the form most people have heard of. It is one of Dr. Gray’s stated clinical interests. It is not a first step — it is considered when a clear mechanism has been established and the conservative and interventional options ahead of it have been genuinely tried.
