Rachel Cole, PA-C — Physician Assistant, Pain Management at Mountain View Pain Center

Rachel Cole is a Physician Assistant in Pain Management at Mountain View Pain Center, seeing patients at Lakewood. She came to pain medicine from primary care in Denver, which is where most long-standing pain is managed first — and where it most often stalls. No referral is needed for Pain Management, Chiropractic, Physical Therapy or Acupuncture, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

About

About Rachel Cole

Western Colorado University – Bachelor of Science in Biology, Red Rocks Community College – Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies Rachel Cole is a Physician Assistant who grew up in Salt Lake City, UT. She attended her undergraduate at Western Colorado University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She then attended Red Rocks Community College and received her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to working at Mountain View Pain Center, she worked in Primary Care in Denver. She has a passion for building connections with patients and improving their quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her husband and twin boys. She also enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, water skiing and soccer.

Clinical focus

The view from the other side of the referral

Before Mountain View Pain Center, Rachel worked in primary care in Denver. That is where nearly everyone’s pain is managed first, and it means she has already seen the sequence most of her patients have been through: the anti-inflammatories, the rest, the imaging ordered to rule something out, the referral that took a while.

It changes the first appointment. She is not starting from the assumption that nothing has been tried; she is asking what was tried, for how long, and what actually happened — because a treatment abandoned after four days and a treatment that genuinely did not work are different findings with different next steps.

Primary care also teaches you that pain rarely arrives alone. Sleep, medication interactions and whatever else someone is being treated for all shape what is reasonable to recommend, and that is part of the assessment rather than an afterthought.

The conditions she sees are lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica and nerve pain, herniated discs, arthritis and joint pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, peripheral neuropathy and headaches and migraines.

What she does

Examination, medication management and the next step

Rachel’s visits start with an examination and a diagnosis. Her first job is working out which structure is generating the pain, because that is what decides the plan — and imaging you bring is read alongside the examination rather than in place of it.

Visits cover evaluation, medication management and ongoing pain care. Where an image-guided procedure — epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, trigger point injections and radiofrequency ablation — is the right next step, it is scheduled at Northglenn or Interquest in north Colorado Springs, which are the Colorado clinics where those are performed in office.

Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture are in the same building, so where the answer is rehabilitation rather than a needle it is a handover rather than another referral and another wait.

Before you come in

Rachel Cole — FAQs

Is Rachel Cole accepting new patients?

Availability changes from week to week, so the honest answer is to ask. Request an appointment online and say you would like to see Rachel, or call the Colorado number and our team will tell you what is open at Lakewood. No referral is needed for Pain Management, Chiropractic, Physical Therapy or Acupuncture, and our goal is to get you in within the same week.

Where does Rachel Cole see patients?

At our Lakewood clinic. Lakewood is not one of the four clinics where image-guided procedures are performed, so if one turns out to be the right next step it is scheduled at Northglenn or Interquest.

Do I need a referral to see Rachel Cole?

No. Pain Management at Mountain View Pain Center does not require a referral, and neither do Chiropractic, Physical Therapy or Acupuncture. If your own plan requires one, our team will tell you when they verify your benefits.

Which insurance is accepted?

Mountain View Pain Center is contracted with Medicare and with most major commercial plans, and we also work with personal-injury liens and workers’ compensation. Our team can verify your benefits before your first visit.

I have already tried everything my doctor suggested. Is there any point coming in?

That is the commonest reason people hesitate, and it is usually worth coming in anyway. What a pain-management evaluation adds is a specific answer to which structure is generating the pain, and most of the useful options — image-guided injections, a targeted rehabilitation program, Chiropractic or Acupuncture alongside it — are not available in primary care. Bring the list of what has been tried; it shortens the visit considerably.
