The Neck That Arrives at Three in the Afternoon

Highlands Ranch has a lot of seated work and a lot of driving attached to it. The commonest presentation through this door is not a dramatic injury; it is a neck and upper back that feel fine at nine and are unbearable by mid-afternoon, often with a headache that starts at the base of the skull.

These need examining rather than resting. Overuse injuries in a growing athlete that get labelled as growing pains are the ones that come back a decade later, and the point of an examination is to distinguish the two.

Examination Before Adjustment

You are examined before you are treated: range of motion, orthopaedic testing, neurological screening where symptoms travel into an arm or leg.

The question being answered is whether this is a joint restriction that manual work will fix, a disc under load that needs a different approach, a nerve root with genuine neurological signs, or something that should not be adjusted at all. Where imaging is indicated first, we can order it here.

Techniques

Diversified manual adjustment; instrument-assisted adjustment for anyone who would rather not be thrust manually; drop-table technique; flexion-distraction for disc-related low back pain; soft-tissue and myofascial work; and home exercise, which is usually what holds the gains between visits.
