Most Humana cards are Medicare cards

Humana appears on the payer list for our Colorado clinics and for our Arizona clinics, so our clinics bill Humana directly. The thing worth knowing before you call is that the majority of Humana members are on a Medicare Advantage plan rather than a commercial employer plan, and the two behave differently in ways that matter here.

A Medicare Advantage plan has to cover at least what Original Medicare covers, and it may cover more. For Chiropractic that floor is narrow: Medicare pays for spinal manipulation and not for the examination, imaging or the therapies performed alongside it. Many Medicare Advantage plans add a chiropractic benefit on top of that floor, which is exactly the kind of thing that has to be read off your plan rather than assumed.

Call with your card, or request an appointment online, and our team will tell you which kind of Humana plan you hold, whether Physical Therapy, Acupuncture or Pain Management is covered under it, and what the visit is likely to cost. Our Medicare Advantage page covers the rest.

What Humana asks for

Networks, referrals and the Medicare floor

Which product you hold. Humana sells HMO, PPO and private fee-for-service Medicare Advantage products as well as commercial plans, and the network rules differ sharply between them. It is the first thing our team establishes.

Referrals. We do not require one. Humana HMO products commonly do want a primary care referral on file for a specialist claim to pay, and PPO products generally do not.

The Medicare chiropractic rule. Under Medicare, chiropractic coverage is spinal manipulation only. The examination, imaging and any modalities performed with it are billed separately and are not covered under that benefit. Where your Humana plan adds a supplemental chiropractic benefit, we will tell you what it includes before your first visit.

Prior authorization. Medicare Advantage plans authorize more aggressively than commercial plans, particularly for interventional procedures and advanced imaging. Our team submits and tracks it, and tells you what is outstanding.

Before you come in

What to bring, and how we check

Bring the card, a photo ID and any imaging you already have with the report that came with it. If you hold a Medicare Advantage plan, bring the plan documents too if you have them, since the supplemental benefits are where plans differ most and they are rarely printed on the card.

Benefits are verified before your first visit. Our team establishes which Humana product you hold, whether a referral has to be on file, what the plan adds above the Medicare floor and what a visit will cost you. Request an appointment online at any hour and we will call you back to do the same.

Where to be seen

Clinics in both states

Colorado (16 clinics) — Academy in Colorado Springs, Arapahoe, Central Park, Downtown Denver, Greeley, Harmony in Fort Collins, Highlands Ranch, Interquest in north Colorado Springs, Lafayette, Lakewood, Lone Tree, Lowry, Northglenn, Southlands, Tenderfoot in south Colorado Springs, Wadsworth.

Arizona (6 clinics) — Chandler, Deer Valley, Dunlap in north Phoenix, Mesa, Peoria, Westgate in Glendale.

Every clinic page lists the address, the hours and what a first visit involves. Medicare Advantage networks are set plan by plan and change each January, which is why we ask you to call and confirm rather than rely on a published list.

Before you come in

Humana — FAQs

Does Mountain View Pain Center take Humana?

Yes. Humana is on the accepted payer list for our Colorado clinics and our Arizona clinics. Which Humana product you hold decides the rest, and our team checks that before your first visit.

Is my Humana Medicare Advantage plan accepted?

Mountain View Pain Center is in network with most Medicare Advantage plans, and Humana is on our payer list in both states. Call to confirm yours, since Medicare Advantage networks are plan-specific and change year to year.

Does Humana cover chiropractic care?

Medicare covers spinal manipulation only, and a Medicare Advantage plan has to meet that floor. Some Humana plans add a chiropractic benefit on top of it. What yours does is read off the plan when our team verifies your benefits.

Does Mountain View Pain Center take Humana for physical therapy in Colorado?

Our Colorado clinics bill Humana directly and Physical Therapy is offered across them. Colorado does not require a physician referral, though some plans want one on file, and our team checks that.

Does Mountain View Pain Center take Humana for pain management in Arizona?

Our Arizona clinics bill Humana directly and Pain Management is offered in Arizona, with image-guided procedures performed in office at Mesa and Westgate.

Do I need a referral to use my Humana plan here?

Not from us. Humana HMO products commonly want one from your primary care physician for the claim to pay. Our team checks which product you hold when they verify benefits.

Why does my plan need to authorize things first?

Medicare Advantage plans review more than commercial plans do, particularly around procedures and advanced imaging. Our team submits it and tracks it, and you should be told what is waiting rather than having to ask.

What will my visit cost with Humana?

It depends on the product, the copay and any deductible. Call with your card and our team will give you the number before you come in rather than on a statement afterwards.

Request an appointment online any time.

Day or night, seven days a week — and we’ll text you back to get you scheduled. No referral is needed, and our goal is to see you within the same week. Colorado scheduling runs through one number for every Colorado clinic: (720) 749-5599.
