Getting seen

The clinics across the city

InterQuest sits at the north end at 10807 New Allegiance Drive; Academy is on the east side at 3204 N Academy Boulevard; Tenderfoot is in the south at 1230 Tenderfoot Hill Road. Each treats low back pain and each has Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture in the same building.

Because the city runs long north to south, the sensible choice is usually the nearest one rather than the one someone recommended. Monument and Gleneagle come to InterQuest, the Powers corridor to Academy, Fountain and Security-Widefield to Tenderfoot.

The first appointment

Finding the structure before treating it

Low back pain covers several different problems. The examination exists to separate them: which movements reproduce it, whether it refers into the leg, and whether the source is the facet joints, the disc, the sacroiliac joint or the muscle around them.

That answer changes everything downstream. A back that hurts more standing and extending is a different plan from one that hurts more sitting, and a sacroiliac joint responds to something different again.

Conservative course

What is tried first

Most episodes improve over weeks, and what changes the curve is graded movement rather than rest. Chiropractic care restores motion in segments that have locked. Physical Therapy rebuilds the endurance the trunk lost while it was being protected. Acupuncture is used where guarding is holding everything in place.

All three are delivered on one plan and one chart, so the sequence is decided together rather than by whoever you happened to book with first.

Next steps

When it becomes an injection, and where

Where the conservative course has not been enough, what follows depends on the examination. Medial branch blocks confirm or rule out the facet joints and can lead to radiofrequency ablation. An epidural steroid injection is used where a nerve root is involved. A sacroiliac joint injection is used where that joint is confirmed.

In Colorado Springs all of these are performed in office at InterQuest, off the InterQuest Parkway exit on I-25, by the physician who assessed you.

Paying

Coverage and claims

Most major commercial plans are accepted and most Medicare Advantage plans are in network in Colorado. Benefits are verified before the first visit so the cost is known in advance.

Where a collision or a work injury is involved, care is billed to med-pay, a lien, the carrier on the claim, or a health plan. No referral is needed and appointments are usually available within the same week.

FAQs

Which clinic is nearest?

InterQuest for Monument, Gleneagle and the north; Academy for the Powers corridor and the east side; Tenderfoot for Fountain, Security-Widefield and the south.

What does the examination look for?

Which movements reproduce the pain, whether it refers into the leg, and whether the facet joints, the disc, the sacroiliac joint or the muscle is the source.

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly for Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic or Acupuncture. Appointments are usually available within the same week.

Is imaging needed first?

Usually not. It is ordered when there is weakness, when symptoms are not improving on a reasonable course, or when a procedure needs a target confirmed.

What is radiofrequency ablation for?

Facet joint pain, once diagnostic blocks have confirmed those joints are the source. It is performed in office at InterQuest.

How long will it take?

Most episodes improve over weeks. Graded movement changes the curve faster than rest does.

Can you treat a work injury?

Yes. It runs through the carrier on the claim, and the route is set up at the first visit.

What will it cost?

Most major commercial plans are accepted and most Medicare Advantage plans are in network in Colorado. Benefits are checked before you come in.
