The day itself

Arrival, procedure, and the hours that follow

Check-in, a short conversation confirming what is being targeted and why, then positioning. The skin is numbed first. The block itself takes a few minutes, and afterwards there is a brief observation period before you go.

You leave with the anesthetic already working, which is when the useful part of the day begins. Most people notice the change in the car park.

InterQuest

Where Colorado Springs blocks are performed

Interventional appointments for this city are at InterQuest, 10807 New Allegiance Drive, off the InterQuest Parkway exit on I-25.

Academy on North Academy Boulevard and Tenderfoot on Tenderfoot Hill Road cover assessment, follow-up and the Physical Therapy running alongside. If you have been seen at either, nothing restarts when the block is scheduled at InterQuest.

The diary

The notes that make the next decision easy

Keep a simple record for the rest of the day. What time the block was done, what you did afterwards, how much of the pain went, and when it came back. Four lines is enough.

That record is what the next appointment is built on. A block described afterwards as it was kind of better is almost useless; a block described as walking to the shop was fine for four hours and then it returned is decisive.

Partial relief counts too, and should be written down as partial rather than rounded up or dismissed. More than one structure contributing is common.

Where it leads

What a clear answer opens up

A block that produces good relief points to the longer-acting option aimed at the same target, whether that is a steroid injection or, where the joints are involved, radiofrequency ablation.

A block that produces nothing is equally valuable. It closes off a line of treatment before time and money have gone into it, and redirects the plan toward the Chiropractic, Physical Therapy or Acupuncture work that may serve you better.

Coverage

Plans, claims and getting in

Most major commercial plans are accepted in Colorado and most Medicare Advantage plans are in network. Your benefits are verified before the appointment rather than afterwards.

Auto collision pain is billed through the policy or an attorney lien, and workplace injuries through the workers compensation carrier. Assessment requires no referral and is usually available within the same week.

More on nerve block elsewhere, along with Pain Management in Colorado Springs.

Other Colorado Springs pages by complaint: sciatica treatment in Colorado Springs, herniated disc treatment in Colorado Springs, low back pain treatment in Colorado Springs, neck pain treatment in Colorado Springs, knee pain treatment in Colorado Springs and neuropathy treatment in Colorado Springs. And by procedure: epidural steroid injection in Colorado Springs, radiofrequency ablation in Colorado Springs, spinal cord stimulator in Colorado Springs and kyphoplasty in Colorado Springs (at our surgery center in Denver).

FAQs

Which clinic will it be at?

InterQuest on New Allegiance Drive. Assessment and follow-up can stay at Academy or Tenderfoot.

How will I know whether it worked?

By testing it. Go and do something that normally hurts while the anesthetic is active, and write down what happened.

Is steroid always included?

No. When the aim is purely diagnostic, anesthetic alone gives the cleanest answer.

What does partial relief mean?

Usually that more than one structure is involved. It is a useful finding and should be reported as it was rather than rounded either way.

Does it hurt?

The skin is numbed first, and most people describe pressure. The awkward part is usually holding the position.

What comes next if it helped?

A longer-acting treatment aimed at the same target, which is a decision made with you at the follow-up.

Can I eat beforehand?

Usually yes. Any exception, including anything relating to blood thinners, will be covered when the appointment is booked.

Do you take Medicare?

We are in network with most Medicare Advantage plans in Colorado. Call to confirm yours before you come in.

The assessment comes first, and it decides whether this is the right procedure for you.

Nerve Block is performed in office at our InterQuest clinic. No referral is needed to be evaluated, and appointments are usually available within the same week.
