Kyphoplasty in Colorado Springs

Kyphoplasty treats a painful vertebral compression fracture. A small balloon creates space inside the collapsed vertebra and bone cement is placed to stabilise it, which usually settles the fracture pain quickly.

In Colorado Springs this procedure is performed in office at Interquest. It is placed under live X-ray guidance rather than by feel. Where a clinic does not perform a procedure on site, your care is coordinated to one that does.

Who it is for

Who This Procedure Suits

It is for painful compression fractures, most often in people with thinner bones, where the pain has not settled with time and support. Imaging confirms the fracture is recent enough to treat before it is offered.

Nobody is offered a procedure at a first appointment. The first visit is an examination and a plan; the procedure is consented and scheduled separately, and most plans require prior authorization first, which we arrange.

What to expect

On the Day

It is performed under live X-ray guidance through a small entry point in the back. You go home the same visit rather than staying overnight.

You go home afterwards rather than staying overnight. Arrange a lift if you would rather not drive.

Afterwards

Relief and What Follows

Relief from fracture pain is often noticeable quickly, which is unusual among these procedures. The underlying bone problem still needs managing separately, and that is part of the plan rather than an afterthought.

Whatever the result, it is information. A good response confirms the source of the pain; a poor one usually means the pain is coming from somewhere else, and that changes the plan rather than ending it.

Coverage

Medicare and Commercial Insurance

We accept most major insurance plans and are in network with most Medicare Advantage plans in both states. These procedures generally require prior authorization, which we arrange, and benefits are verified before anything is scheduled.

FAQs

Where is a kyphoplasty performed in Colorado Springs?

In office at our Interquest clinic.

Do I need a referral for a kyphoplasty in Colorado Springs?

No referral is needed to be evaluated. The procedure itself is scheduled after an assessment, and most insurance plans require prior authorization, which we arrange.

Will I get the procedure at my first appointment?

No. The first visit is an examination and a plan. Procedures are consented and scheduled separately.

Is it done under anaesthetic?

The skin is numbed with local anaesthetic. You are awake, and being awake is useful because you can tell the physician what you feel.

How long does it take?

The procedure itself takes a few minutes to under an hour depending on what is being treated. Allow longer for preparation and a short rest afterwards.

Can I drive myself home?

Often yes, but not always. You will be told in advance, so arrange a lift if you would rather not find out on the day.

Is it covered by insurance?

We accept most major plans and are in network with most Medicare Advantage plans in both states. Prior authorization is usually required and we arrange it.

What if it does not work?

That is useful information rather than a dead end. It usually means the pain is coming from a different structure, which changes the plan.

The assessment comes first, and it decides whether this is the right procedure for you.

Kyphoplasty is performed in office at our Interquest clinic. No referral is needed to be evaluated, and appointments are usually available within the same week.
